And all the people went up following him, playing on pipes and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth quaked at their noise.


You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel.


Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with your tambourines and go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.


“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another,

And Jesus said to them, “The wedding attendants cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.


When Jesus came to the leader’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,


“Now his elder son was in the field, and as he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing.


A great number of the people followed him, and among them were women who were beating their breasts and wailing for him.


They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.’


Everyone was weeping and grieving for her, but he said, “Do not cry, for she is not dead but sleeping.”
