The wealth of the rich is their strong city; in their imagination it is like a high wall.

And you, O generation, behold the word of the Lord! Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a land of thick darkness? Why then do my people say, “We are free; we will come to you no more”?


Let me go to the rich and speak to them; surely they know the way of the Lord, the law of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds.


The king was deeply grieved, yet out of regard for his oaths and for the guests, he did not want to refuse her.


But when he heard this, he became sad, for he was very rich.
