saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’


Then he became angry and refused to go in. His father came out and began to plead with him.


But when this son of yours came back, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you killed the fatted calf for him!’


Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.


So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, ‘We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!’ ”


He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt:


for I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man; you take what you did not deposit and reap what you did not sow.’


Not knowing the righteousness of God and seeking to establish their own, they have not submitted to God’s righteousness.


For no human will be justified before him by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.


Then what becomes of boasting? It is excluded. Through what kind of law? That of works? No, rather through the law of faith.


I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived


Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. To everyone who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give a white stone, and on the white stone is written a new name that no one knows except the one who receives it.


For you say, ‘I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing.’ You do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
