21 So the slave returned and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’

Then the disciples approached and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?”


When his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place.


They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard.’


But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.


Another said, ‘I have just been married, and therefore I cannot come.’


And the slave said, ‘Sir, what you ordered has been done, and there is still room.’


For I tell you, none of those who were invited will taste my dinner.’ ”


and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.


On their return the apostles told Jesus all they had done. Then, taking them along, he slipped quietly into a city called Bethsaida.


Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see may see and those who do see may become blind.”


Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with sighing, for that would be harmful to you.


how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It was declared at first through the Lord, and it was confirmed for us by those who heard him,


Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?


From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a scepter of iron; he will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.


The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let everyone who hears say, “Come.” And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.


He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and on them he has set the world.


So David’s young men turned away and came back and told him all this.
