Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”


He answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you have, and your father’s house, because you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and followed the Baals.


Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you. Because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of the Lord,


and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word?—therefore you shall not leave the bed to which you have gone, but you shall surely die.”


O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.


And Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because of what God had done for the people, for the thing had come about suddenly.


O Lord, you will hear the desire of the meek; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear


The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.


and that they should not be like their ancestors, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.


And those who err in spirit will come to understanding, and those who grumble will accept instruction.”


Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!

Now John wore clothing of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.


He will turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.


And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,


who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.


And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One.”

and what if he has done so in order to make known the riches of his glory for the objects of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—


giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.


All who cleanse themselves of the things I have mentioned will become special utensils, dedicated and useful to the owner of the house, ready for every good work.


But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.


And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he is revealed we may have confidence and not be put to shame before him at his coming.


Then I saw thrones, and those seated on them were given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its brand on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.


Then Samuel said, “Gather all Israel at Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.”
