When Absalom’s servants came to the woman at the house, they said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” The woman said to them, “They have crossed over the brook of water.” And when they had searched and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.


Then the other said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, ‘Bring him back with you into your house so that he may eat food and drink water.’ ” But he was deceiving him.


No one who practices deceit shall remain in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue in my presence.


I said in my consternation, “Everyone is a liar.”


“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.


“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female slave, ox, donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”


“When someone steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it, the thief shall pay five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.


“When someone delivers to a neighbor money or goods for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house, then the thief, if caught, shall pay double.


“You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with the wicked to act as a malicious witness.


Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your lips.


For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


You shall not strip your vineyard bare or gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the alien: I am the Lord your God.


By no means! Although every human is a liar, let God be proved true, as it is written, “So that you may be justified in your words and you will prevail when you go to trial.”


So then, putting away falsehood, let each of you speak the truth with your neighbor, for we are members of one another.


Those who steal must give up stealing; rather, let them labor, doing good work with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy.


“ ‘Neither shall you steal.


Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices


the sexually immoral, men who engage in illicit sex, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching


But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
