“Go, inquire of the Lord for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found, for the wrath of the Lord that is poured out on us is great, because our ancestors did not keep the word of the Lord, to act in accordance with all that is written in this book.”

How the gold has grown dim; how the pure gold is changed! The sacred stones lie scattered at the head of every street.


The Lord gave full vent to his wrath; he poured out his hot anger and kindled a fire in Zion that consumed its foundations.

They have blown the horn and made everything ready, but no one goes to battle, for my wrath is upon all their multitude.


I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck down by your enemies; your foes shall rule over you, and you shall flee though no one pursues you.


A jealous and avenging God is the Lord; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and prolongs it against his enemies.


Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and by him the rocks are broken in pieces.


For a fire is kindled by my anger and burns to the depths of Sheol; it devours the earth and its increase and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.


Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since the Lord has turned from you and become your enemy?
