For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of King Josiah son of Amon of Judah to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened.


They have turned their backs to me, not their faces; though I have taught them persistently, they would not listen and accept correction.


Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, “I beg you not to do this abominable thing that I hate!”


At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as though I were a rebel? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me.


Every day he was teaching in the temple, and at night he would go out and spend the night on the Mount of Olives, as it was called.


And all the people would get up early in the morning to listen to him in the temple.


And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.


He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.


Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work.


He spoke these words while he was teaching in the treasury of the temple, but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.


The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and, making her stand before all of them,


When they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and went on with their teaching. When the high priest and those with him arrived, they called together the council and the whole body of the elders of Israel and sent to the prison to have them brought.
