See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.


“On the second day: twelve young bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish,


“On the third day: eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old without blemish,


Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.


At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as though I were a rebel? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me.


Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him,


Jesus answered, “I have spoken openly to the world; I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret.


Later Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you have been made well! Do not sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”


Now the Jewish Festival of Booths was near.


Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him.


On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me,


Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and began to teach them.


He spoke these words while he was teaching in the treasury of the temple, but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
