We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy cloth. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.


Their webs cannot serve as clothing; they cannot cover themselves with what they make. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands.


Your own mouth condemns you, not I; your own lips testify against you.


Though I am innocent, my own mouth would condemn me; though I am blameless, he would prove me perverse.


If I wash myself with soap and cleanse my hands with lye,


For he is not a mortal, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together.


If you ask, ‘What advantage have I? How am I better off than if I had sinned?’


I will throw filth at you and treat you with contempt and make you a spectacle.

Though you wash yourself with lye and use much soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me, says the Lord God.
