Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the older men who had attended his father Solomon while he was still alive, saying, “How do you advise me to answer this people?”


Is wisdom with the aged and understanding in length of days?


“Look, my eye has seen all this; my ear has heard and understood it.


The gray-haired and the aged are on our side, those older than your father.


what sages have told and their ancestors have not hidden,


Do you not know this from of old, ever since mortals were placed on earth,


We have heard with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what deeds you performed in their days, in the days of old:


The living, the living, they thank you, as I do this day; fathers make known to children your faithfulness.


Hear this, O elders; give ear, all inhabitants of the land! Has such a thing happened in your days or in the days of your ancestors?


For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.


These things happened to them to serve as an example, and they were written down to instruct us, on whom the ends of the ages have come.


Remember the days of old; consider the years long past; ask your father, and he will inform you, your elders, and they will tell you.


“For ask now about former ages, long before your own, ever since the day that God created human beings on the earth; ask from one end of heaven to the other: Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has its like ever been heard of?
