When he gave to the wind its weight and apportioned out the waters by measure,


Who gave him charge over the earth, and who laid on him the whole world?


yet their voice goes out through all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,


He drove out nations before them; he apportioned them for a possession and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.


When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,


when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,


But the desert owl and the screech owl shall possess it; the great owl and the raven shall live in it. He shall stretch the line of confusion and the plummet of chaos over it.


Who has measured the waters of the sea in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?


It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them like a tent to live in,


so that we may proclaim the good news in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in someone else’s field.


He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and on them he has set the world.
