Joab said, “As God lives, if you had not spoken, the people would have continued to pursue their kinsmen, not stopping until morning.”


Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”


Elijah said, “As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him today.”


When she came to the man of God at the mountain, she caught hold of his feet. Gehazi approached to push her away, but the man of God said, “Let her alone, for she is in bitter distress; the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me.”


Does it seem good to you to oppress, to despise the work of your hands and favor the schemes of the wicked?


God gives me up to the evil and casts me into the hands of the wicked.


know then that God has put me in the wrong and closed his net around me.


God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me.


For Job has said, ‘I am innocent, and God has taken away my right;


“Do you think this to be just? You say, ‘I am in the right before God.’


Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be justified?


For he crushes me with a tempest and multiplies my wounds without cause;


he will not let me get my breath but fills me with bitterness.


Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”?


And then, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, “As the Lord lives,” as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they shall be built up in the midst of my people.


and if you swear, “As the Lord lives!” in truth, in justice, and in uprightness, then nations shall be blessed by you, and by you they shall boast.


Although they say, “As the Lord lives,” yet they swear falsely.


Say to them: As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn from their ways and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?


nevertheless, as I live and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord,


Remain this night, and in the morning, if he will act as next-of-kin for you, good; let him do it. But if he is not willing to act as next-of-kin for you, then, as the Lord lives, I will act as next-of-kin for you. Lie down until the morning.”


For as the Lord lives who saves Israel, even if it is in my son Jonathan, he shall surely die!” But there was no one among all the people who answered him.


Then the people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has accomplished this great victory in Israel? Far from it! As the Lord lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground, for he has worked with God today.” So the people ransomed Jonathan, and he did not die.


Then I will send the boy, saying, ‘Go, find the arrows.’ If I say to the boy, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you; collect them,’ then you are to come, for, as the Lord lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger.


“Now then, my lord, as the Lord lives and as you yourself live, since the Lord has restrained you from bloodguilt and from taking vengeance with your own hand, now let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be like Nabal.


For as surely as the Lord the God of Israel lives, who has restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, truly by morning there would not have been left to Nabal so much as one male.”
