The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.”


So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate.


For when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.


While he was still speaking with them, the king came down to him and said, “This trouble is from the Lord! Why should I hope in the Lord any longer?”


But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.”


But he said to her, “You speak as any foolish woman would speak. Shall we receive good from God and not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.


The Lord said to the accuser, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and turns away from evil. He still persists in his integrity, although you incited me against him, to destroy him for no reason.”


But stretch out your hand now and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.”


Job took a potsherd with which to scrape himself and sat among the ashes.


The Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the Name in a curse. And they brought him to Moses—now his mother’s name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan—


You have said, “It is vain to serve God. What do we profit by keeping his command or by going about as mourners before the Lord of hosts?


She wept before him the seven days that their feast lasted, and because she nagged him, on the seventh day he told her. Then she explained the riddle to her people.
