Then I sent to him, saying, “No such things as you say have been done; you are inventing them out of your own mind,”


“I have heard many such things; miserable comforters are you all.


All of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?


My companions are treacherous like a torrent bed, like swollen streams that pass away,


They are disappointed because they were confident; they come there and are confounded.


Such you have now become to me; you see my calamity and are afraid.


The arrogant smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts.


“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.


See, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, says the Lord, and who tell them and who lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when I did not send them or command them, so they do not profit this people at all, says the Lord.


There is no one to uphold your cause, no medicine for your wound, no healing for you.


Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter Egypt! In vain you have used many medicines; there is no healing for you.


They have treated the wound of my people carelessly, saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.


Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?


You have not strengthened the weak; you have not healed the sick; you have not bound up the injured; you have not brought back the strays; you have not sought the lost, but with force and harshness you have ruled them.


When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound.


When Jesus heard this, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick; I have not come to call the righteous but sinners.”


She had endured much under many physicians and had spent all that she had, and she was no better but rather grew worse.
