14 Why do we sit still? Gather together; let us go into the fortified cities and perish there, for the Lord our God has doomed us to perish and has given us poisoned water to drink because we have sinned against the Lord.

I was silent and still; I held my peace to no avail; my distress grew worse;

Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I am feeding this people with wormwood and giving them poisonous water to drink.


The thought of my affliction and my homelessness is wormwood and gall!


Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord meant when he said, ‘Through those who are near me I will show myself holy, and before all the people I will be glorified.’ ” And Aaron was silent.


And if a relative, one who burns it, takes up the body to bring it out of the house and says to someone in the innermost parts of the house, “Is anyone else with you?” the answer will come, “No.” Then the relative shall say, “Hush! We must not mention the name of the Lord.”


But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him!


Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.


they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it.


It may be that there is among you a man or woman or a family or tribe whose heart is already turning away from the Lord our God to serve the gods of those nations. It may be that there is among you a root sprouting poisonous and bitter growth.


Their vine comes from the vinestock of Sodom, from the vineyards of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of poison; their clusters are bitter;
