The Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel; he punished them and gave them into the hand of plunderers, until he had banished them from his presence.


Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshiped.


On that day the Lord God of hosts called for weeping and mourning, for baldness and putting on sackcloth,


I have forsaken my house; I have abandoned my heritage; I have given the beloved of my heart into the hands of her enemies.


Have you completely rejected Judah? Does your heart loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We look for peace but find no good, for a time of healing, but there is terror instead.


Both great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, and no one shall lament for them; there shall be no gashing, no shaving of the head for them.


Look up to the bare heights and see! Where have you not been lain with? By the waysides you sat waiting for lovers, like a nomad in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your prostitutions and wickedness.


A voice on the bare heights is heard, the plaintive weeping of Israel’s children, because they have perverted their way; they have forgotten the Lord their God:


Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is silenced. O remnant of Anakim! How long will you gash yourselves?


For every head is shaved and every beard cut off; on all the hands there are gashes and on the loins sackcloth.


They are called “rejected silver,” for the Lord has rejected them.


Take up weeping and wailing for the mountains and a lamentation for the pastures of the wilderness, because they are laid waste so that no one passes through, and the lowing of cattle is not heard; both the birds of the air and the animals have fled and are gone.


I will scatter them among nations that neither they nor their ancestors have known, and I will send the sword after them until I have consumed them.

As for you, raise up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,


Mortal, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him: Thus says the Lord God: You were the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

yet his degenerate children have dealt falsely with him, a perverse and crooked generation.
