Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great whore who is seated on many waters,


And he said to me, “The waters that you saw, where the whore is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages.


I will give you the treasures of darkness and riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who call you by your name.


Therefore thus says the Lord: I am going to defend your cause and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her fountain dry,


And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence because of them; now I am going to destroy them along with the earth.


And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, “Alas, alas, the great city, where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in one hour she has been laid waste.”


And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.


The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers.


He said, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A basket of summer fruit.” Then the Lord said to me, “The end has come upon my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.


This is the interpretation of the matter: mene: God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end;


They dogged our steps so that we could not walk in our streets; our end drew near; our days were numbered, for our end had come.


A sword against her horses and against her chariots and against all the foreign troops in her midst, so that they may become women! A sword against her treasures, that they may be plundered!


I am against you, O arrogant one, says the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you.


Kill all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter. Alas for them, their day has come, the time of their punishment!


Like the partridge hatching what it did not lay, so are all who amass wealth unjustly; in midlife it will leave them, and at their end they will prove to be fools.


Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I will send to Babylon and break down all the bars, and the shouting of the Chaldeans will be turned to lamentation.


Because of their wicked covetousness I was angry; I struck them; I hid and was angry, but they kept turning back to their own ways.


By the rivers of Babylon— there we sat down, and there we wept when we remembered Zion.
