Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord; they testified against them, but they would not listen.


“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their backs and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.


The sentinel says: “Morning comes and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; come back again.”


But if you are determined not to surrender, this is what the Lord has shown me:


But he rebelled against him by sending ambassadors to Egypt, that they might give him horses and a large army. Will he succeed? Can one escape who does such things? Can he break the covenant and yet escape?


Whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house), they shall know that there has been a prophet among them.


If, however, you warn the righteous not to sin and they do not sin, they shall surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved your life.


Why is the Lord bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder; would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?”


And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”


Now this I affirm and insist on in the Lord: you must no longer walk as the gentiles walk, in the futility of their minds;


Even so, he must not acquire many horses for himself or return the people to Egypt in order to acquire more horses, since the Lord has said to you, ‘You must never return that way again.’


And when many terrible troubles come upon them, this song will confront them as a witness because it will not be lost from the mouths of their descendants. For I know what they are inclined to do even now, before I have brought them into the land that I promised them on oath.”


that no one wrong or exploit a brother or sister in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we have already told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.
