he led them by a straight way, until they reached an inhabited town.


He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;


I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.


Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord: Israel is my firstborn son.

I thought how I would set you among my children and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful heritage of all the nations. And I thought you would call to me, “My Father,” and would not turn from following me.


Have you not just now called to me, “My Father, you are the friend of my youth—


Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he the child in whom I delight? As often as I speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore I am deeply moved for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says the Lord.


In those days and in that time, says the Lord, the people of Israel shall come, they and the people of Judah together; they shall come weeping as they seek the Lord their God.


He strove with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor; he met him at Bethel, and there he spoke with him.


Afterward the Israelites shall return and seek the Lord their God and David their king; they shall come in awe to the Lord and to his goodness in the latter days.


And I will pour out a spirit of compassion and supplication on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that, when they look on the one whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him as one mourns for an only child and weep bitterly over him as one weeps over a firstborn.


Have we not all one father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our ancestors?


“On the west side shall be the regimental encampment of Ephraim by companies. The leader of the people of Ephraim shall be Elishama son of Ammihud,


This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.’ ”


“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.


“Pray, then, in this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be revered as holy.


“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.


Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for words.


and I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Do you thus repay the Lord, O foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father who created you, who made you and established you?


and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.


and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,


In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.


for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
