As the Lord your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom to which my lord has not sent to seek you, and when they would say, ‘He is not here,’ he would require an oath of the kingdom or nation that they had not found you.


He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, just as all his ancestors had done.


In vain I have struck down your children; they accepted no correction. Your own sword devoured your prophets like a ravening lion.


Then the officials said to Baruch, “Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.”


Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim) and Rabbah: two towns with their villages.


Then the boundary goes in another direction, turning on the western side southward from the mountain that lies to the south, opposite Beth-horon, and it ends at Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a town belonging to the tribe of Judah. This forms the western side.


So the Israelites set out and reached their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.


So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-jearim, saying, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord. Come down and take it up to you.”


From the day that the ark was lodged at Kiriath-jearim, a long time passed, some twenty years, and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.
