He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, just as all his ancestors had done.


and also for the innocent blood that he had shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to pardon.


Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and the abominations that he did and what was found against him are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah, and his son Jehoiachin succeeded him.


if my step has turned aside from the way, and my heart has followed my eyes, and if any spot has clung to my hands,


For the wicked boast of the desires of their heart; those greedy for gain curse and renounce the Lord.


You should also look for able men among all the people, men who fear God, are trustworthy, and hate dishonest gain; set them as officers over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.


for their minds devise violence, and their lips talk of mischief.


The dogs have a mighty appetite; they never have enough. The shepherds also have no understanding; they have all turned to their own way, to their own gain, one and all.


Like the partridge hatching what it did not lay, so are all who amass wealth unjustly; in midlife it will leave them, and at their end they will prove to be fools.


Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their ancestors nor the kings of Judah have known, and because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent


Thus says the Lord: Act with justice and righteousness and deliver from the hand of the oppressor anyone who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place.


For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


For thus says the Lord of hosts: Cut down her trees; cast up a siege ramp against Jerusalem. This is the city that must be punished; there is nothing but oppression within her.


if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt,


Therefore I will give their wives to others and their fields to conquerors, because from the least to the greatest everyone is greedy for unjust gain; from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


oppresses the poor and needy, commits robbery, does not restore the pledge, lifts up his eyes to the idols, commits abomination,


He prowled among the lions; he became a young lion, and he learned to catch prey; he devoured people.


And he ravaged their strongholds and laid waste their towns; the land was appalled, and all in it, at the sound of his roaring.


With hooks they put him in a neck collar and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into custody, so that his voice should be heard no more on the mountains of Israel.


The princes of Israel in you, everyone according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood.


They come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not obey them. For flattery is on their lips, but their heart is set on their gain.


They covet fields and seize them, houses and take them away; they oppress householder and house, people and their inheritance.


who build Zion with blood and Jerusalem with wrong!


The officials within it are roaring lions; its judges are evening wolves that leave nothing until the morning.


They were filled with every kind of injustice, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, craftiness, they are gossips,


thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, swindlers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.


Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).


when I saw among the spoil a beautiful mantle from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. They now lie hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.”


They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!


And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.


Yet his sons did not follow in his ways but turned aside after gain; they took bribes and perverted justice.
