27 But if you do not listen to me, to keep the Sabbath day holy and to carry in no burden through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates; it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem and shall not be quenched.

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:


O house of David! Thus says the Lord: Execute justice in the morning, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor anyone who has been robbed, or else my wrath will go forth like fire and burn, with no one to quench it, because of their evil doings.


I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, says the Lord; I will kindle a fire in its forest, and it shall devour all that is around it.


But if you will not heed these words, I swear by myself, says the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.


The Chaldeans who are fighting against this city shall come, set this city on fire, and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs offerings have been made to Baal and libations have been poured out to other gods, to provoke me to anger.


The Chaldeans burned with fire the king’s house and the houses of the people and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.


“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we are not going to listen to you.


And I will kindle a fire at the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.

They shall burn your houses and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women; I will stop you from prostituting yourself, and you shall also make no more payments.

So I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour its strongholds.

See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking, for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven!
