But David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, with his head covered and walking barefoot, and all the people who were with him covered their heads and went up, weeping as they went.


The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, “O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!”

They are disappointed because they were confident; they come there and are confounded.


May my accusers be clothed with dishonor; may they be wrapped in their own shame as in a mantle.


Let all those be put to shame and confusion who seek to snatch away my life; let those be turned back and brought to dishonor who desire my hurt.


because the ground is cracked. Because there has been no rain on the land, the farmers are dismayed; they cover their heads.


Why is my pain unceasing, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Truly, you are to me like a deceitful brook, like waters that fail.


for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water, and dug out cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns that can hold no water.


From there also you will come away with your hands on your head, for the Lord has rejected those in whom you trust, and you will not prosper through them.


But the Lord is with me like a terrifying warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble, and they will not prevail. They will be greatly shamed, for they will not succeed. Their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten.


Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come, yet you have the forehead of a prostitute; you refuse to be ashamed.


The tongue of the infant sticks to the roof of its mouth for thirst; the children beg for food, but there is nothing for them.


or I will strip her naked and expose her as in the day she was born and make her like a wilderness and turn her into a parched land and kill her with thirst.


Even the wild animals cry to you because the watercourses are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.


And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest; I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city; one field would be rained upon, and the field on which it did not rain withered;


so two or three towns wandered to one town to drink water and were not satisfied; yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.


If any of the families of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, there will be no rain upon them.
