Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”


For thus says the Lord the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the Lord sends rain on the earth.”


After many days the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year of the drought, saying, “Go, present yourself to Ahab; I will send rain on the earth.”


then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk, and grant rain on your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance.


when he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the thunderbolt,


He gives rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields;


I wait for the Lord; my soul waits, and in his word I hope;


He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.


He covers the heavens with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, makes grass grow on the hills.


May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.


Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame; let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.


Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!


Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.


He will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and grain, the produce of the ground, will be rich and plenteous. On that day your cattle will graze in broad pastures,


No, they are all a delusion; their works are nothing; their images are empty wind.


It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.


When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.


They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment they shall perish.


For the customs of the peoples are false: a tree from the forest is cut down and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan;


O Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to you shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say: “Our ancestors have inherited nothing but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit.


They have spoken falsely of the Lord and have said, “He will do nothing. No evil will come upon us, and we shall not see sword or famine.”


They do not say in their hearts, “Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.”

She shall pursue her lovers but not overtake them, and she shall seek them but shall not find them. Then she shall say, “I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better with me then than now.”


O children of Zion, be glad, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the later rain, as before.


And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest; I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city; one field would be rained upon, and the field on which it did not rain withered;


They shall rule the land of Assyria with the sword and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword; they shall rescue us from the Assyrians if they come into our land or tread within our border.


But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.


so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.


The Lord will open for you his rich storehouse, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all your undertakings. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.


They made me jealous with what is no god, provoked me with their idols. So I will make them jealous with what is no people, provoke them with a foolish nation.
