When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.


They buried him in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the city of David. They laid him on a bier that had been filled with various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumer’s art, and they made a very great fire in his honor.


There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary are at rest.


Mark the blameless and behold the upright, for there is posterity for the peaceable.


and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath returns to God who gave it.


All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb,


The way of the righteous is level; straight is the path of the righteous that you clear.


Thus says the Lord: Stand at the crossroads and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way lies; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, “We will not walk in it.”


They have made Elam a bed among the slain with all its hordes, their graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, killed by the sword, for terror of them was spread in the land of the living, and they bear their shame with those who go down to the Pit; they are placed among the slain.


But you, go your way, and rest; you shall rise for your reward at the end of the days.”


His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things; I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’


Both of them were righteous before God, living blamelessly according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.


The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.


“Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word,


But he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”


For we know that, if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.


Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.


I am hard pressed between the two: my desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better,


And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.”
