You have caused friend and neighbor to shun me; my companions are in darkness.


For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.”


Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their robes, to open doors before him— and the gates shall not be closed:


Then you will say in your heart, “Who has borne me these? I was bereaved and barren, exiled and put away— so who has reared these? I was left all alone— where, then, have these come from?”


O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted, I am about to set your stones in antimony and lay your foundations with sapphires.


My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken; my children have gone from me, and they are no more; there is no one to spread my tent again and to set up my curtains.


It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord.


My sheep were scattered; they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill; my sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with no one to search or seek for them.


Fallen, no more to rise, is maiden Israel; forsaken on her land, with no one to raise her up.


Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if one blind person guides another, both will fall into a pit.”


When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.


He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had put saliva on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Can you see anything?”
