(Indeed, there was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord, urged on by his wife Jezebel.


They made their sons and their daughters pass through fire, used divination and augury, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.


Now the wife of a member of the company of prophets cried to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord, but a creditor has come to take my two children as slaves.”


Now our flesh is the same as that of our kindred; our children are the same as their children; and yet we are forcing our sons and daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been ravished; we are powerless, and our fields and vineyards now belong to others.”


For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. If we had been sold merely as slaves, men and women, I would have held my peace, but no enemy can compensate for this damage to the king.”


You have sold your people for a trifle, demanding no high price for them.


“When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do.


But rebels and sinners shall be destroyed together, and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.


By expulsion, by exile you struggled against them; with his fierce blast he removed them in the day of the east wind.


Your first ancestor sinned, and your mediators rebelled against me.


Remember this and consider; recall it to mind, you transgressors;


For thus says the Lord: You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.


For the Lord has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like the wife of a man’s youth when she is cast off, says your God.


For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you.


Shout out; do not hold back! Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Announce to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins.


We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy cloth. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.


If a man divorces his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man’s wife, will he return to her? Would not such a land be greatly polluted? You have prostituted yourself with many lovers, and would you return to me? says the Lord.


She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce, yet her false sister Judah did not fear, but she also went and prostituted herself.


Your ways and your doings have brought this upon you. This is your doom; how bitter it is! It has reached your very heart.”


You shall stumble by day; the prophet also shall stumble with you by night, and I will destroy your mother.


“If any who are dependent on you become so impoverished that they sell themselves to you, you shall not make them serve as slaves.


and, as he could not pay, the lord ordered him to be sold, together with his wife and children and all his possessions and payment to be made.


How could one have routed a thousand and two put a myriad to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, the Lord had given them up?
