Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.


Those who make them are like them; so are all who trust in them.


Those who make them and all who trust them shall become like them.


All servants of images are put to shame, those who make their boast in worthless idols; all gods bow down before him.


O Lord, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be ashamed. Let the fire for your adversaries consume them.


You, indeed, are nothing, and your work is nothing at all; whoever chooses you is an abomination.


No, they are all a delusion; their works are nothing; their images are empty wind.


They shall be turned back and utterly put to shame— those who trust in carved images, who say to cast images, “You are our gods.”


Listen, you who are deaf, and you who are blind, look up and see!


Bring forth the people who are blind yet have eyes, who are deaf yet have ears!


Let all the nations gather together, and let the peoples assemble. Who among them declared this and foretold to us the former things? Let them bring their witnesses to justify them, and let them hear and say, “It is true.”


All its devotees shall be put to shame; the artisans, too, are merely human. Let them all assemble; let them stand up; they shall be terrified; they shall all be put to shame.


They do not know, nor do they comprehend, for their eyes are shut, so that they cannot see, and their minds as well, so that they cannot understand.


He feeds on ashes; a deluded mind has led him astray, and he cannot save himself or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a fraud?”


All of them are put to shame and confounded; the makers of idols go in disgrace together.


Assemble yourselves and come together; draw near, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge— those who carry about their wooden idols and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.


I will announce your verdict, and the objects you made will not help you.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: My servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame;


Can any idols of the nations bring rain, or can the heavens give showers? Is it not you, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for it is you who do all this.


Has a nation changed its gods, even though they are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for something that does not profit.


As a thief is shamed when caught, so the house of Israel shall be shamed: they, their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets,


He shall honor the god of fortresses instead of these; a god whom his ancestors did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts.


You have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven! The vessels of his temple have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have been drinking wine from them. You have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose power is your very breath and to whom belong all your ways, you have not honored.


Claiming to be wise, they became fools,


Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “no idol in the world really exists” and that “there is no God but one.”


In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing clearly the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.


they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart.


for once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light,


“ ‘Cursed be anyone who makes an idol or casts an image, anything abhorrent to the Lord, the work of an artisan, and sets it up in secret.’ All the people shall respond, saying, ‘Amen!’


There you will serve gods made by human hands, objects of wood and stone that neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.


Go and cry to the gods whom you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your distress.”
