19 No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked bread on its coals; I roasted meat and have eaten. Now shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?”

For Solomon followed Astarte the goddess of the Sidonians and Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.


Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites on the mountain east of Jerusalem.


The king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, to the south of the Mount of Destruction, which King Solomon of Israel had built for Astarte the abomination of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.


He broke the pillars in pieces, cut down the sacred poles, and covered the sites with human bones.


Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take even this to heart.


They do not know, nor do they comprehend, for their eyes are shut, so that they cannot see, and their minds as well, so that they cannot understand.


Assemble yourselves and come together; draw near, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge— those who carry about their wooden idols and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.


Remember this and consider; recall it to mind, you transgressors;


Therefore my people go into exile for lack of knowledge; their nobles are dying of hunger, and their multitude is parched with thirst.


Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who kills a human, whoever sacrifices a lamb like one who breaks a dog’s neck, whoever presents a grain offering like one who offers pig’s blood, whoever makes a memorial offering of frankincense like one who blesses an idol. Just as these have chosen their own ways and in their abominations they take delight,


The man said to me, “Mortal, look closely and listen attentively, and set your mind on all that I shall show you, for you were brought here in order that I might show it to you; declare all that you see to the house of Israel.”


My people consult a piece of wood, and their divining rod gives them oracles. For a spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have prostituted themselves, forsaking their God.


But they do not consider that I remember all their wickedness. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face.


Now therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider how you have fared.


“ ‘Cursed be anyone who makes an idol or casts an image, anything abhorrent to the Lord, the work of an artisan, and sets it up in secret.’ All the people shall respond, saying, ‘Amen!’


he said to them, “Take to heart all the words that I am giving in witness against you today; give them as a command to your children, so that they may diligently observe all the words of this law.
