How often are they like straw before the wind and like chaff that the storm carries away?


By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger they are consumed.

The grass withers; the flower fades, [[when the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass.


You shall winnow them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the tempest shall scatter them. Then you shall rejoice in the Lord; in the Holy One of Israel you shall glory.


Who has roused a victor from the east, summoned him to his service? He delivers up nations to him and tramples kings under foot; he makes them like dust with his sword, like driven stubble with his bow.


Thus says the Lord: Record this man as childless, a man who shall not succeed in his days, for none of his offspring shall succeed in sitting on the throne of David and ruling again in Judah.


Look, the storm of the Lord! Wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked.


Although he may flourish among rushes, the east wind shall come, a blast from the Lord, rising from the wilderness, and his fountain shall dry up; his spring shall be parched. It shall strip his treasury of every precious thing.


Therefore they shall be like the morning mist or like the dew that goes away early, like chaff that swirls from the threshing floor or like smoke from a window.


The Lord has commanded concerning you: Your name shall be perpetuated no longer; from the house of your gods I will cut off the carved image and the cast image. I will prepare your grave, for you are worthless.


You have looked for much, but it came to little, and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the Lord of hosts. Because my house lies in ruins, while all of you hurry off to your own houses.


and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and a pleasant land was made desolate.”


Then the Lord will appear over them, and his arrow go forth like lightning; the Lord God will sound the trumpet and march forth in the whirlwinds of the south.
