He drove out nations before them; he apportioned them for a possession and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.


[[When the nations roar like the roaring of many waters,]] he will rebuke them, and they will flee far away, chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind and like whirling dust before the storm.


At evening time, sudden terror! Before morning, they are no more. This is the fate of those who despoil us and the lot of those who plunder us.


Night and day it shall not be quenched; its smoke shall go up forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; no one shall pass through it forever and ever.


But the desert owl and the screech owl shall possess it; the great owl and the raven shall live in it. He shall stretch the line of confusion and the plummet of chaos over it.


This is your lot, the portion I have measured out to you, says the Lord, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies.


After he had destroyed seven peoples in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance


From one ancestor he made all peoples to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live,


the Lord’s own portion was his people, Jacob his allotted share.


So the men started on their way, and Joshua charged those who went to write the description of the land, saying, “Go throughout the land and write a description of it and come back to me, and I will cast lots for you here before the Lord in Shiloh.”
