Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.


To show partiality is not good, yet for a piece of bread a person may do wrong.


Woe to those who make iniquitous decrees, who write oppressive statutes,


The villainies of villains are evil; they devise wicked devices to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right.


Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!


who acquit the guilty for a bribe and deprive the innocent of their rights!


Truth is lacking, and whoever turns from evil is despoiled. The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.


Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for instruction shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us bring charges against him, and let us not heed any of his words.”


And concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah you shall say: Thus says the Lord, You have burned this scroll, saying, “Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and will cut off from it human beings and animals?”


You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death those who should not die and keeping alive those who should not live, by your lies to my people, who listen to lies.


Then I will draw near to you for judgment; I will be swift to bear witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired workers in their wages, the widow, and the orphan, against those who thrust aside the alien and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.


Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said.


and said, “What will you give me if I betray him to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver.


But you rejected the holy and righteous one and asked to have a murderer given to you,


You have condemned and murdered the righteous one, who does not resist you.
