9 Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces; no sacred poles or incense altars will remain standing.

He broke the pillars in pieces, cut down the sacred poles, and covered the sites with human bones.


He burned the house of the Lord, the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem; every great house he burned down.


He also removed from all the cities of Judah the high places and the incense altars. And the kingdom was quiet under him.


In his presence they pulled down the altars of the Baals; he demolished the incense altars that stood above them. He broke down the sacred poles and the carved and the cast images; he made dust of them and scattered it over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

Then you will defile your silver-covered idols and your gold-plated images. You will scatter them like impure things; you will say to them, “Away with you!”


once the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning.


Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.


See, I have refined you but not like silver; I have tested you in the furnace of adversity.


When they come there, they will remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations.


I will purge out the rebels among you and those who transgress against me; I will bring them out of the land where they reside as aliens, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.


Your altars shall become desolate, and your incense stands shall be broken, and I will throw down your slain in front of your idols.


Some of the wise shall fall, so that they may be refined, purified, and cleansed, until the time of the end, for there is still an interval until the time appointed.


O Ephraim, what have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like an evergreen cypress; your fruit comes from me.


I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars; I will heap your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols. I will abhor you.


and I will cut off the cities of your land and destroy all your strongholds;


On that day, says the Lord of hosts, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, so that they shall be remembered no more, and also I will remove from the land the prophets and the unclean spirit.


“And this is my covenant with them, when I take away their sins.”


But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.


Break down their altars, smash their pillars, burn their sacred poles with fire, and cut down the idols of their gods, and thus blot out their name from their places.


for the Lord disciplines those whom he loves and chastises every child whom he accepts.”
