a time to seek and a time to lose; a time to keep and a time to throw away;


What will you do on the day of punishment, in the calamity that will come from far away? To whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your wealth,


they will not have regard for the altars, the work of their hands, and they will not look to what their own fingers have made, either the sacred poles or the altars of incense.


Then you will defile your silver-covered idols and your gold-plated images. You will scatter them like impure things; you will say to them, “Away with you!”


For on that day all of you shall throw away your idols of silver and idols of gold, which your hands have sinfully made for you.


An idol? A workman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts for it silver chains.


Bel bows down; Nebo stoops; their idols are on beasts and cattle; these things you carry are loaded as burdens on weary animals.


Those who lavish gold from the purse and weigh out silver in the scales— they hire a goldsmith, who makes it into a god; then they fall down and worship!


Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations.


I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.


They shall fling their silver into the streets; their gold shall be treated as unclean. Their silver and gold cannot save them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. They shall not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity.


O Ephraim, what have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like an evergreen cypress; your fruit comes from me.


the stork, the heron of any kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.


The Lord will be terrible against them; he will shrivel all the gods of the earth, and to him shall bow down each in its place, all the coasts and islands of the nations.


Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’
