You mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain upon you nor bounteous fields! For there the shield of the mighty was defiled, the shield of Saul, anointed with oil no more.


But this is not what he intends, nor does he have this in mind, but it is in his heart to destroy and to cut off nations not a few.


Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voices are heard as far as Jahaz; therefore the loins of Moab quiver; his soul trembles.


Therefore I weep as Jazer weeps for the vines of Sibmah; I drench you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh, for the shout over your fruit harvest and your grain harvest has ceased.


The wine dries up; the vine languishes; all the merry-hearted sigh.


More than for Jazer I weep for you, O vine of Sibmah! Your branches crossed over the sea, reached as far as Jazer; upon your summer fruits and your vintage the destroyer has fallen.


Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they captured its villages and dispossessed the Amorites who were there.
