Then you will defile your silver-covered idols and your gold-plated images. You will scatter them like impure things; you will say to them, “Away with you!”


For on that day all of you shall throw away your idols of silver and idols of gold, which your hands have sinfully made for you.


They shall be turned back and utterly put to shame— those who trust in carved images, who say to cast images, “You are our gods.”


All of them are put to shame and confounded; the makers of idols go in disgrace together.


you who burn with lust among the oaks, under every green tree; you who slaughter your children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?


a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and offering incense on bricks;


Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following the one in the center, eating the flesh of pigs, vermin, and rodents, shall come to an end together, says the Lord,


For long ago you broke your yoke and burst your bonds, and you said, “I will not serve!” On every high hill and under every green tree you sprawled and prostituted yourself.


The Lord said to me in the days of King Josiah: Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree and prostituted herself there?


in order that you may remember and be confounded and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I forgive you all that you have done, says the Lord God.


Then you shall remember your evil ways and your dealings that were not good, and you shall loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominable deeds.


And you shall know that I am the Lord when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, under every green tree, and under every leafy oak, wherever they offered pleasing odor to all their idols.


Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses; we will say no more, ‘Our God,’ to the work of our hands. In you the orphan finds mercy.”


O Ephraim, what have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like an evergreen cypress; your fruit comes from me.


They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains and make offerings upon the hills, under oak, poplar, and terebinth because their shade is good. Therefore your daughters prostitute themselves, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.


A wind has wrapped them in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their altars.


So what fruit did you then gain from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death.
