Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”


Then Joseph threw himself on his father’s face and wept over him and kissed him.


And Joseph died, being one hundred ten years old; he was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt.


They buried him in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the city of David. They laid him on a bier that had been filled with various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumer’s art, and they made a very great fire in his honor.


By pouring this ointment on my body she has prepared me for burial.


She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for its burial.


When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.


But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared.


Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial.
