To Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.


After this Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.


As for the offspring born to you after them, they shall be yours. They shall be recorded under the names of their brothers with regard to their inheritance.


When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; the very deep trembled.


But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.


I passed by you again and looked on you; you were at the age for love. I spread the edge of my cloak over you and covered your nakedness: I pledged myself to you and entered into a covenant with you, says the Lord God, and you became mine.


Thus says the Lord God: These are the boundaries by which you shall divide the land for inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph shall have two portions.


You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy, and I have separated you from the other peoples to be mine.


They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.


From the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.


and I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”


He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will,


By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, “bowing in worship over the top of his staff.”


Now, therefore, divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”


For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and no portion was given to the Levites in the land but only towns to live in, with their pasturelands for their flocks and herds.
