After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”


But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”


When Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called his elder son Esau and said to him, “My son,” and he answered, “Here I am.”


So he went in to his father and said, “My father,” and he said, “Here I am; who are you, my son?”


Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, on his way from Paddan-aram, and he camped before the city.


Now his brothers went to pasture their father’s flock near Shechem.


“I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.


Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’


But Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” He said, “Here I am.”


The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.
