instructing them, “Thus you shall say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob, ‘I have lived with Laban as an alien and stayed until now,


But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are frail and that the flocks and herds, which are nursing, are a care to me, and if they are overdriven for one day, all the flocks will die.


See now, the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt and whom they avoided and did not destroy,


He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms and carry them in his bosom and gently lead the mother sheep.

With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it;


We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.


I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for solid food. Even now you are still not ready,


“we journeyed back into the wilderness, in the direction of the Red Sea, as the Lord had told me, and skirted Mount Seir for many days.


Lord, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the region of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens poured; the clouds indeed poured water.
