Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.


Then he said, “Let me go, for the day is breaking.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go, unless you bless me.”


Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the thigh muscle that is on the hip socket, because he struck Jacob on the hip socket at the thigh muscle.


Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you maggot Israel! I will help you, says the Lord; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.


Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel and its Maker: Will you question me about my children or command me concerning the work of my hands?


Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”


So leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words.
