Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Can Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”


God said, “No, but your wife Sarah shall bear you a son, and you shall name him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.


The matter was very distressing to Abraham on account of his son.


When you till the ground, it will no longer yield to you its strength; you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”


Today you have driven me away from the soil, and I shall be hidden from your face; I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and anyone who meets me may kill me.”


There are many who say, “O that we might see some good! Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord!”


But you have upheld me because of my integrity and set me in your presence forever.


Rather, your iniquities have been barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.


I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for all time, for their own good and the good of their children after them.


For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.”
