31 Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot son of Haran and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan, but when they came to Haran, they settled there.

The days of Terah were two hundred five years, and Terah died in Haran.


So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.


Abram took his wife Sarai and his brother’s son Lot and all the possessions that they had gathered and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran, and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they had come to the land of Canaan,


they also took Lot, the son of Abram’s brother, who lived in Sodom, and his goods and departed.


Then he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess.”


Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, taking all kinds of choice gifts from his master, and he set out and went to Aram-naharaim, to the city of Nahor.


Before he had finished speaking, there was Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, coming out with her water jar on her shoulder.


Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; flee at once to my brother Laban in Haran,


Jacob left Beer-sheba and went toward Haran.


Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations that my predecessors destroyed: Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar?


You are the Lord, the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham;


While he was still speaking, another came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three columns, made a raid on the camels and carried them off, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; I alone have escaped to tell you.”


Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations that my predecessors destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar?


By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance, and he set out, not knowing where he was going.
