2 I went up in response to a revelation. Then I laid before them (though only in a private meeting with the acknowledged leaders) the gospel that I proclaim among the gentiles, in order to make sure that I was not running, or had not run, in vain.

The whole assembly kept silence and listened to Barnabas and Paul as they told of all the signs and wonders that God had done through them among the gentiles.


And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to discuss this question with the apostles and the elders.


When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all that God had done with them.


One night the Lord said to Paul in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent,


That night the Lord stood near him and said, “Keep up your courage! For just as you have testified for me in Jerusalem, so you must bear witness also in Rome.”


But a Pharisee in the council named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, respected by all the people, stood up and ordered the men to be put outside for a short time.


So it depends not on human will or exertion but on God who shows mercy.


but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to gentiles,


For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.


Do you not know that in a race the runners all compete, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win it.


So I do not run aimlessly, nor do I box as though beating the air,


It is necessary to boast; nothing is to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord.


for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.


to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him among the gentiles, I did not confer with any human,


I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—


And from those who were supposed to be acknowledged leaders (what they actually were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those leaders contributed nothing to me.


and when James and Cephas and John, who were acknowledged pillars, recognized the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we should go to the gentiles and they to the circumcised.


You were running well; who prevented you from obeying the truth?


holding forth the word of life so that I can boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.


Welcome him, then, in the Lord with all joy, and honor such people,


For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith; I was afraid that somehow the tempter had tempted you and that our labor had been in vain.


I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.


Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
