All hands shall grow feeble, all knees turn to water.


Disaster comes upon disaster; rumor follows rumor; they shall keep seeking a vision from the prophet; instruction shall perish from the priest and counsel from the elders.


Then the king’s face turned pale, and his thoughts terrified him. His limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together.


And as for those of you who survive, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; the sound of a driven leaf shall put them to flight, and they shall flee as one flees from the sword, and they shall fall though no one pursues.


Devastation, desolation, and destruction! Hearts faint and knees tremble; all loins quake; all faces grow pale!


People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.


The officers shall continue to address the troops, saying, ‘Is anyone afraid or disheartened? He should go back to his house, or he might cause the heart of his comrades to melt like his own.’


Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees


When all the kings of the Amorites beyond the Jordan to the west and all the kings of the Canaanites by the sea heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted, and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the Israelites.


The men of Ai killed about thirty-six of them, chasing them from outside the gate as far as Shebarim and killing them on the slope. The hearts of the people melted and turned to water.


The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers.
