Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down and warn the people not to break through to see the Lord; otherwise many of them will perish.


Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord with which he had sent him and all the signs with which he had charged him.


Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; to draw near to listen is better than the sacrifice offered by fools, for they do not know how to keep from doing evil.


Their prince shall be one of their own; their ruler shall come from their midst; I will bring him near, and he shall approach me, for who would otherwise dare to approach me? says the Lord.


Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord meant when he said, ‘Through those who are near me I will show myself holy, and before all the people I will be glorified.’ ” And Aaron was silent.


Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.


Because the Lord your God travels along with your camp, to save you and to hand over your enemies to you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you.


(For they could not endure the order that was given, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned to death.”


The commander of the army of the Lord said to Joshua, “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.


We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain.
