So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar.

Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.”


There shall be twelve stones with names corresponding to the names of the sons of Israel; they shall be like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes.


The Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”


On that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt and a pillar to the Lord at its border.


“You shall take choice flour and bake twelve loaves of it; two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each loaf.


“Speak to the Israelites, and get twelve staffs from them, one for each ancestral house, from all the leaders of their ancestral houses. Write each man’s name on his staff,


so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.


and when James and Cephas and John, who were acknowledged pillars, recognized the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we should go to the gentiles and they to the circumcised.


Then Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel.


Those twelve stones that they had taken out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal,


Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites,


And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
