She came and told the man of God, and he said, “Go sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your children can live on the rest.”


After thinking it over, I contended with the nobles and the officials; I said to them, “You are all taking interest from your own people.” And I called a great assembly to deal with them


who do not lend money at interest and do not take a bribe against the innocent. Those who do these things shall never be moved.


One who augments wealth by exorbitant interest gathers it for another who is kind to the poor.


Woe is me, my mother, that you ever bore me, a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have not lent, nor have I borrowed, yet all of them curse me.

“If there is among you anyone in need, a member of your community in any of your towns within the land that the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tight-fisted toward your needy neighbor.


You shall give the pledge back by sunset, so that your neighbor may sleep in the cloak and bless you, and it will be to your credit before the Lord your God.
