On the sixth day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done.


So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.


In those days I saw in Judah people treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys, and also wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of burdens that they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, and I warned them at that time against selling food.


and you made known your holy Sabbath to them and gave them commandments and statutes and a law through Moses your servant.


“Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest so that your ox and your donkey may have relief and your homeborn slave and the resident alien may be refreshed.


Moses assembled all the congregation of the Israelites and said to them, “These are the things that the Lord has commanded you to do:


Happy is the mortal who does this, the one who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it, and refrains from doing any evil.


If you refrain from trampling the Sabbath, from pursuing your own interests on my holy day; if you call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, serving your own interests or pursuing your own affairs;


Thus says the Lord: For the sake of your lives, take care that you do not bear a burden on the Sabbath day or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem.


And do not carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath or do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your ancestors.


But if you listen to me, says the Lord, and bring in no burden by the gates of this city on the Sabbath day but keep the Sabbath day holy and do no work on it,


and hallow my Sabbaths that they may be a sign between me and you, so that you may know that I the Lord am your God.”


You shall each revere your mother and father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.


You shall keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary: I am the Lord.


“Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work: it is a Sabbath to the Lord throughout your settlements.


You shall keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary: I am the Lord.


When the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day.


“ ‘Observe the Sabbath day and keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.
